Penned To Pin On Bowling Green seeks poems written by YOU –set in, or inspired by, Bowling Green, Kentucky and surrounding areas.

We’re looking for poems by residents, former residents and visitors who have found themselves imbued with creativity in the Vette City. We welcome accessible poems, complex poems, funny poems, dark poems, long poems, short poems, formal poems, free verse, and everything in between. Penned to Pin on Bowling Green seeks to publish a range of poems as diverse as the Bowling Green community itself.

The foremost consideration is that your poems must include specific references to Bowling Green places, events, or vibes — e.g. a Cage the Elephant show at Tidball’s; coffee at Spencer’s; pie at Judy’s Castle, sledding on Hospital Hill; cheering on our baseball team, The Hot Rods, or our two roller derby teams, The Vette City Vixens and The Bowling Green Hot Broads; drag races at Beech Bend Roadway or drag queens at Donna’s; white squirrel sightings while studying on The Hill, the horrific tornadoes of 12/11/2021 and the subsequent resilience demonstrated by the #BGstrong movement; the mythical Bowling Green Massacre, or whatever other happenings in and around Bowling Green mean something to you.

What happens to my poem after I submit?

After you submit, our team will take a look at your poem.  Our response time can be up to two months. We appreciate your patience — we have a small staff. We are a non-profit with no budget, so at this time we are unable to pay contributors.

Can I submit poems that are published elsewhere?

Previously published poems are okay; just let us know where the poem was published so that we can acknowledge the original publisher.

Are simultaneous submissions ok?

We are open to simultaneous submissions, but let us know immediately if work is accepted elsewhere.

Not all submissions can be accepted.  Submitting to this site grants permission for publication on this site.
